Tips for Springtime Outdoor Planting

Figure Out Where to Plant

One of the main factors to consider when planning your garden is where you are going to put the plants. You’ll want to know how much space you have and how big the plants will end up growing. Another important factor is the amount of sunlight in the area that you are planting. How much sunlight does your area receive in a typical day? Many plants are sensitive to the amount of sunlight that they need or don’t need. Make sure you aren’t planting a shade-loving plant in a full-sun area and you’ll have better luck keeping your garden blooming through the season.

Decide What Types of Plants

When considering the types of plants you want to buy, it’s important to think about whether you want perennials, annuals, or a combination of both. Do you want to have a different garden each year, or would you rather stick with a few core plants that come back each year? Many people will often go with a combination of both varieties. Within those categories, you have various types of plants to choose from, such as herbs, vines, flowers, etc. With outdoor flowers, it’s also easy to forget that the plants still need to be cared for. Make sure to look at the amount of time that will be needed for upkeep. The different types of plants and flowers also bloom at different times throughout the season, ranging from early spring to late fall. To keep your garden interesting throughout the year, you’ll want to consider when your plants will bloom and the length that they bloom. With a little bit of planning you can have blooms and beautiful color from Spring through Fall.

Add Some Variety

To help your garden appeal to the eye, make sure you consider the color of the blooms when choosing where to put your plants. You can experiment with complementary colors or various color combinations. Another way to spice up your garden this season is to add a variety of different types of plants. Don’t be afraid to mix and match.
