Houseplant Care & Annual House Plant Sale

The new year is here and what better way is there to turn over a new leaf than to buy some new houseplants to liven up your living space?! From air plants to aloe to philodendrons, it’s tried and true that houseplants are proven to improve concentration and productivity, while also helping better your stress level! In fact, it has been noted that houseplants can remove 87% of the toxins in the air in your home within 24 hours! After the crazy year we’ve all just had, we can all benefit from the positive effects of houseplants.

Fortunately for you, Jolly Lane Greenhouse is about to celebrate our love of houseplants with our annual Houseplant Sale, which will run from January 18th through January 30th! With houseplants and foliage coming in by the truckload, it’s time to start creating your list of plants to pick up at the sale where all houseplants will be 25% off. And don’t forget to stock up on fun decorative pots while you’re at Jolly Lane (we’ve got a lot of them). During the Houseplant Sale, if you purchase a new houseplant and pot we’ll assist with potting free of charge – how sweet is that? But what happens once you get your plants home? Will you know how to properly take care of them?

Look no further than this blog article! Our plant experts are here to share our best houseplant care tips to help keep your leafy friends thriving year-round!

Tip 1: Sunlight

It is very important to be aware of the type of sunlight houseplants need to thrive before you purchase them. As a rule of thumb, make sure to do proper research before you visit Jolly Lane so you can know exactly what you’re looking for and whether or not your home has the right sunlight sources to keep your plants in tip-top shape. The last thing you want is to buy plants and to watch them wilt because they aren’t getting the sunlight they need. If you have any questions, you can always give us a call or ask our plant experts when you visit!

Tip 2: Watering

Many of us often forget to water our houseplants due to our hectic lives, but the good thing is that a majority of houseplants don’t need as much water as we think! Along with researching sunlight exposure for your houseplants, make sure to research how often you need to water your leafy friends! For example, Aloe Vera plants typically only need to be watered once every 2-3 weeks while heartleaf philodendrons need to be watered every 1-2 weeks. To avoid overwatering, make sure to purchase a pot with holes in the bottom and a plate to catch any excess fluids.

In the same vein, it is important to keep your plants moist, so consider spraying your houseplants with a spray bottle regularly.

Tip 3: Temperature

In order to keep your houseplants thriving year-round, it’s important to keep a watchful eye on the temperature of your home. As a rule of thumb, the best temperature range for houseplants is between 70 and 80 degrees F during the day and 65 to 70 degrees F at night, according to the University of Georgia!

Above all the tips we can provide you with, the biggest one we’ll share is more of a mental tip. If you plan to take on the responsibility of taking care of houseplants, make sure you have the time and are in the right mindset to take care of them. If you’re an incredibly busy person, some plants may be better for you than others. Again, if you have any questions about the responsibility associated with taking proper care of houseplants, our plant experts are always here to help offer advice, more pro tips, and recommendations for plants.
